The spring of 2017 finds the 698 foot M/V Michipicoten  passing under the Aerial Lift Bridge and entering the Duluth Harbor as a flock of migrating redhead ducks flyby the portside of the vessel, flare out around the stern and then land near the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. The redheads are only here for a short time and will be gone by morning, on their way to further points north in the Canadian pothole region. The Michipicoten is headed to refuel at the Calumet Fuel Dock in Duluth and will then shift over to the BNSF Ore Dock in Superior, WI to load iron ore pellets for Essar Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
