The early morning July sun is cutting its way through the mist that blankets Eagle's Nest Lake in northeastern Minnesota. A pair of common loons seems to greet the new day with a heralding of "loon talk," keeping each other company with shrill babblings that are almost comical at times. Their "conversation" with one another began at opposite ends of the lake, finally brining the two together within mere feet of each other through a series of yodels, yelps and low moaning calls.
